Does LeadX have a moat?

Kinda.

36/100 · Shallow moat

“The search UI and CRM enrichment copy in weeks. A clean, company-linked set of 50M UCC filings from 50 state offices takes about a year.”

01/The verdict

A B2B data platform for equipment lenders, business lenders and B2B sales teams. It links 50M+ UCC filings to company, contact, BBB and review data, and customers pay roughly $1.7k a month for search and API access.

LeadX's real asset is its data pipeline: it pulls UCC filings from 50 state offices that publish on different schedules, normalizes them and matches them to companies and decision-makers. Nothing else here is hard to copy. The contact and company layer is the same commodity data ZoomInfo and Apollo sell. The founder has about 310 X followers, there is no confirmed outside funding, and revenue comes from about 18 subscriptions, so a funded team with equipment-finance contacts could catch up in under a year.

02/4 moats

~9 mo to cross

LeadX says it holds over 50 million UCC-1 and UCC-3 filings from state filing offices, linked to company records. In press coverage the founder noted that states release this data on different schedules, for example Florida daily and Oregon monthly.

To cross it: Buy or scrape bulk UCC feeds state by state, backfill the history, and build entity resolution that matches debtors to companies and contacts.

Sokol is a data scientist who started his career in equipment finance. The product pulls asset details like OEM and equipment type out of messy collateral descriptions, which generic databases don't do.

To cross it: Hire someone from equipment finance and train extraction models on collateral text, which LLMs now make much easier.

~3 mo to cross

Customers plug in through a REST API, bulk delivery, an MCP server, scheduled UCC reports and ongoing CRM enrichment. Leaving means rewiring those pipelines.

To cross it: Offer a compatible API and a free migration for the first lender accounts.

~6 mo to cross

Its niche credibility rests on Equipment Finance News coverage and a named customer, KLC Financial, which credits the product with closing deals. LeadX has no G2 or Trustpilot presence.

To cross it: Win a few named equipment lenders and get coverage in Monitor and Equipment Finance News trade press.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • The search UI, filters and saved scheduled reports
  • Contact, email and mobile lookup, which is resold vendor data any rival can license
  • BBB, Google review and website enrichment, all scrapeable public signals
  • The AI angle and the MCP server

How you'd go after it

  • License EDA or bulk state UCC feeds and sell to equipment lenders at a lower price
  • Focus on MCA and working-capital brokers, who buy cheap UCC lists from Lead Tycoons-style vendors, with a self-serve tool at $99 to $299 a month
  • Sell underwriting and lien monitoring APIs to lenders, as Cobalt Intelligence does, then add prospecting
  • Get distribution through equipment finance associations like ELFA and NAELB or partner with dealers and OEMs

04/Build against it?

Only with an edge

Only go in if you can fund state-by-state UCC data acquisition and already have contacts among equipment lenders. Customers pay well here, but EDA is the long-standing incumbent and ZoomInfo owns generic B2B data.
