01/The verdict

A gamified daily to-do list for indie founders: it gives you a few distribution quests a day (subreddits, launch boards, directories, newsletters) from a hand-checked list of about 282 places, with streaks, XP and an owl mascot. Solo makers pay for it.

What Verdy sells is a curated list of launch places plus a habit layer: streaks, XP, swipe-to-dismiss and an LLM-written product profile. All of it is public or easy to code. The list mostly comes from places that already appear in free GitHub 'launch directories' repos and blog posts, and searches found no founder audience, funding, press or community behind the product. Its customers are builders by definition, so many of them could make their own version of this, or just bookmark a free list.

02/1 moat

Weeks

The site claims 282+ places 'checked by hand' with their posting rules: 98 subreddits, 39 launch platforms, 70 directories, 19 communities, 23 newsletters and 10 X accounts. Over time, swipe-away feedback could show which places actually work for which kinds of product.

To cross it: Combine the free awesome-launch-directory lists and subreddit rule pages into a database, then have an LLM plus a few days of manual checks fill in the posting rules.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • The list of places: almost all of them are public and already collected in free GitHub repos and Notion lists
  • Streaks, XP, levels and swipe-to-dismiss are standard habit-app mechanics
  • Reading the product URL and writing copy for each place is a single LLM call
  • Daily distribution tips (Hotmail, Calendly, Wordle stories) are generic content

How you'd go after it

  • Give the list away for free as SEO or a lead magnet and charge for automated submissions, as ListingBott-style services do
  • Go after one niche (MCP servers, Chrome extensions, iOS apps) with a deeper list of places that convert better
  • Add measurement: track the upvotes, traffic and signups each quest produced, so you can prove which places work, which Verdy doesn't show
  • Bundle it into a tool founders already use, like a launch-planning or social scheduling product

04/Build against it?

Stay away

There are many free lists and paid directory-submission services. Buyers are broke solo makers, and some can build this themselves. Only go after it if you already have an audience of indie founders to sell to.
