01/The verdict

A searchable database of about 2M Shopify stores, with apps, themes, pixels, traffic and contact emails. Shopify agencies, app makers and ecommerce B2B sales teams pay about $49/mo to find leads.

Shopify storefronts are public, so detecting apps, themes and pixels across millions of domains is a known crawling job. Contact emails mostly come from enrichment vendors anyone can pay for. StoreInspect launched on Product Hunt in December 2025 and has no visible funding or founder audience, and it competes with older players at the same price. All it really has is a young SEO content engine and some crawl history, and a determined clone matches both in a few months.

02/2 moats

~4 mo to cross

Its site carries many SEO pages: comparisons against Store Leads, BuiltWith, Koala Inspector and StoreCensus, 'best tools' roundups, data studies (one picked up by newswires and HackerNoon), a free Store Inspector Chrome extension, a ChatGPT app and an Apify listing.

To cross it: Publish the same comparison and data-study pages and ship a free Shopify inspector extension. Google will rank a new site in a few months, though plenty of rival sites already compete for these keywords.

~3 mo to cross

It claims 1.9M to 2.2M indexed stores, crawled daily, plus about 500K to 660K verified emails. Over time that builds a history of app installs and catalog changes that a newcomer starting today would not have.

To cross it: Crawl Shopify domains from public lists and certificate logs, run app and pixel detection, and buy contact data from an enrichment vendor. That gets you to parity on current data in about a quarter.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • App, theme and pixel detection runs on public storefront HTML and Shopify's open JSON endpoints, which any crawler can read.
  • Contact emails come mostly from third-party enrichment that anyone can license.
  • The features are a table with filters, lead scoring, CSV and CRM export, and an API. None of that is hard to rebuild.
  • Customers are not locked in. A saved lead list exports as a CSV and moves to another tool in minutes.

How you'd go after it

  • Go after one buyer type, for example Shopify app makers who want alerts when a store installs or drops a competing app, and sell those signals instead of a database.
  • Undercut on price with pay-per-lead or a one-time CSV, like StoreRadar or the Apify scrapers, for agencies that run one campaign a quarter.
  • Cover Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Amazon sellers in one tool. StoreInspect is Shopify-only.
  • Build a done-for-you outbound service on top of the data, since agencies want meetings booked, not raw rows.

04/Build against it?

Stay away

At least six tools already sell Shopify store data with contacts at $49 to $99 a month, and anyone can crawl the data. A new clone just fights for the same keywords. Only enter with a distinct angle, such as real-time install signals for app makers or an existing audience of agency owners.
