01/The verdict

Flitto is a Seoul company listed on KOSDAQ. It sells multilingual text, speech and image training data to AI companies, mostly in the US, plus real-time AI interpretation (Live Translation, now branded Vogl) to events, airports, banks and enterprises.

The software is the easy part. Interpretation apps and crowd-task apps are commodity builds, and LLMs keep making AI interpretation cheaper. What protects Flitto is the contributor base it built from 2012, its Arcade data pipeline, and vendor contracts with US tech giants: one contract alone, at 22.7B KRW, was bigger than its whole 2024 revenue. That said, it competes with Appen, Scale, TELUS Digital and LXT for contracts that are re-bid, and about 95% of data revenue comes from a few US buyers.

02/4 moats

~24 mo to cross

Flitto says it has 14M users in 173 countries. Since 2018 its Flitto Arcade app has turned translation, transcription and voice recording into small paid tasks, with 3 to 7 layers of review that rank contributors by past quality.

To cross it: Pay to recruit and vet native speakers in long-tail languages through gig platforms, and build up quality scores on each contributor over many months.

~18 mo to cross

Flitto has passed the test batches and legal-clearance checks of US tech giants. In 2025 it disclosed contracts with global IT clients that later grew to a combined 31.6B KRW, and revenue rose 77% to 36B KRW with its first annual operating profit (6.2B KRW).

To cross it: Win small pilot datasets from labs and deliver accuracy and licensing audit trails good enough to get onto their approved-vendor lists.

~24 mo to cross

Flitto has 13 years of crowd-made parallel corpora and speech in 90+ languages, cleared for commercial training. It has also taken part in the National Institute of Korean Language corpus project five years running.

To cross it: Build fresh, licence-clean datasets through paid collection or synthetic generation in the language pairs buyers want right now.

~6 mo to cross

Its interpretation product runs at Incheon Airport, Seoul Station, Shinhan and Hana banks, CU stores and a Hanwha Ocean shipyard. It is also tuned to each site's terms, and a 3.87B KRW contract with a semiconductor firm covers similar work.

To cross it: Offer the same thing cheaper with custom glossaries, and win the next public tender or enterprise renewal.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Real-time interpretation for conferences: speech-to-text, an LLM and text-to-speech, sold the same way by Wordly, KUDO and Interprefy
  • Kiosk and chat translation at stores and banks, which Google, Papago and Microsoft cover nearly for free
  • The Arcade crowd-task app and review workflow
  • The new Flitto Marketplace for data brokering

How you'd go after it

  • Specialise in data types Flitto is weaker in, such as RLHF, reasoning or expert annotation, where Scale, Surge and Toloka win lab budgets
  • Bundle interpretation into event platforms or meeting tools so organisers never need a separate vendor
  • Win Korean and Japanese enterprise deals on price, using cheaper LLM interpretation with custom glossaries
  • Go after its concentrated US data buyers with synthetic plus human-verified data at lower cost per hour

04/Build against it?

Only with an edge

Only worth it with a specific edge: an existing crowd in underserved languages, or relationships inside AI labs. Interpretation is commoditizing fast, and data buying goes to a few vetted vendors.
