“A Claude-powered site builder that writes HTML to a folder is a weekend build. The one thing that's hard to copy is its spot in the Setapp catalog.”

01/The verdict

Ploof Studio is a Mac AI website builder sold only through Setapp. Mac users paying the $14.99/mo Setapp membership use it to describe a site, click elements to edit them, and deploy to their own GitHub Pages or Vercel.

The product is a chat window around Claude or GPT that writes static HTML, adds a click-to-edit overlay and pushes to GitHub or Vercel. Claude Code, Lovable, Bolt and v0 already do that well. By design it has no lock-in: no hosting, no Ploof code in the site, ZIP export any time. Its only real asset is being an approved Setapp app with Setapp AI credits included, and a determined Mac developer can apply for that too.

02/1 moat

~3 mo to cross

Ploof Studio is listed in the Setapp catalog (82% rating there) and runs on Setapp's bundled AI credits. That puts it in front of an existing paying Mac audience without the founder having to bring customers. No App Store presence, Product Hunt launch or founder audience turned up. The likely developer, Sudhakar Singaravel, publishes small iOS apps with 1 to 2 ratings each.

To cross it: Build a native Mac equivalent and apply to Setapp's vendor program. Or skip Setapp and sell direct or on the Mac App Store, where Setapp members aren't the only buyers.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Prompt to multi-page static HTML/CSS using Claude or GPT
  • Click-an-element-to-edit overlay that sends the CSS selector to the model
  • One-click deploy to GitHub Pages or Vercel, plus domain suggestions
  • Copying a reference site's palette and fonts, and placing uploaded photos

How you'd go after it

  • Ship the same thing as a web app, or on Windows too, and reach the large majority of buyers who aren't Setapp members
  • Go vertical, for example sites for restaurants, barbershops or events with booking and menus built in, which a generic builder lacks
  • Charge a one-time price or offer a free BYO-key tier. Its target buyers can already get similar results from Claude Code, Lovable or v0 free tiers
  • Join Setapp yourself with better output quality and pull its members away inside the same catalog

04/Build against it?

Stay away

AI website builders are among the most crowded categories, with heavily funded leaders (Lovable, Bolt, v0) and general tools like Claude Code giving the same result. A Setapp-only Mac niche is too small to defend and too easy to enter.
