01/The verdict

Local SEO for small businesses: a free audit and rank tracker, $99/mo self-serve software, $249/mo AI-run local SEO, and $995+/mo human agency retainers.

SEO Bandwagon is a long-running Seattle SEO agency, founded by Kyle Alm in 2009, that has added a software layer: audits, rank tracking, a map-pack checker, a Chrome extension and an AI 'agentic' local plan. The software uses commodity SERP data, and a Claude Code builder can match it quickly. The Chrome extension has about 13 users and 1 rating, and we found no founder audience, funding or review base. Its only real assets are 15 years of agency history and some client relationships, and agencies like that are easy to replace.

02/2 moats

~6 mo to cross

Founded in 2009 and appears on Seattle 'top SEO agency' lists. That likely brings some long-tenured retainer clients ($995/mo human SEO, $2,500/mo vertical content for law, dental and healthcare).

To cross it: Build up case studies and local agency directory listings, and earn trust one client at a time with month-to-month pricing.

~2 mo to cross

Done-for-you clients have Business Profile, citation and content work under the agency's care. Rank history in the tracker is lost when they leave. But there are no contracts, by design.

To cross it: Offer to import keyword lists and take over GBP and citation management at no cost.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Free 10-check site audit and Chrome on-page SEO extension: hundreds of free equivalents exist
  • Rank tracker and local map grid checker built on rentable SERP APIs like DataForSEO
  • The '164,241 local businesses tracked' dataset, which can be pulled from the same SERP and Maps APIs
  • Industry landing pages and city data pages that AI can generate at scale

How you'd go after it

  • Undercut the $249/mo Agentic Local plan with a $99/mo AI GBP manager sold through a single vertical (roofers, HVAC) via trade associations
  • Go after its own SEO keywords ('plumber SEO', 'local rank checker') with better free tools and programmatic pages
  • Partner with web-design or POS platforms used by local businesses to bundle local SEO at the point of setup
  • Sell white-label API and MCP rank data to agencies cheaper than its $499 Enterprise tier

04/Build against it?

Only with an edge

Nothing protects this company, but small business local SEO is packed with funded tools and thousands of agencies. Only enter if you already have distribution into one local-business vertical, or a cheap acquisition channel.
