01/The verdict

Open-source URL shortener and QR code generator on Cloudflare Workers. Teams pay $4 to $9 a month for branded links on custom domains, QR codes and click analytics.

rdyrct is a link shortener with QR codes and analytics. It is open source, has about 35 GitHub stars, and offers self-hosting on a Cloudflare account. It has no platform approvals, compliance, data, audience or lock-in beyond links already printed. Bitly, Rebrandly, Short.io and Dub.co already sell the same thing, and Dub.co is also open source and much bigger.

02/1 moat

~1 mo to cross

Short links and QR codes already printed or published keep pointing at rdyrct while they are live. Moving them means keeping the domain, and a custom domain lets customers take their links elsewhere.

To cross it: Offer a CSV importer and tell customers to point their own domain at the new service, so links keep working.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Link shortening, redirects and custom domain routing are a standard Cloudflare Workers build.
  • QR codes with logo and colors, and a UTM builder, are free in many tools and quick to copy.
  • Click analytics and team seats are common features, and the repo is public so the code can be forked.
  • The API and MCP server are easy to match, since many rivals already ship them.

How you'd go after it

  • Undercut on price or free tier: Dub.co, Short.io and Rebrandly all offer free or cheap plans.
  • Fork the open-source repo and host it for a niche such as restaurants, event organisers or real estate agents.
  • Self-host it on a customer's own Cloudflare account for free.
  • Add deeper analytics, conversion tracking or enterprise SSO, where a solo builder is thin.

04/Build against it?

Stay away

The market is crowded with funded rivals and open-source options like Dub.co. A tiny new entrant has no distribution, so only a narrow niche or strong SEO would give an edge.
