01/The verdict

An iOS and Android app from Munich studio Featuring GmbH that turns meal photos into nutrient scores shown on a cartoon avatar. Consumers pay $7.99 to $9.99 a month or $29.99 to $44.99 a year.

Miobi runs a photo through a vision model, then adds a nutrient score, streaks and a selfie-based avatar. Any founder can build that on GPT-4o or Gemini plus a public food database like USDA. The US App Store listing has 5 ratings. I found no founder audience, funding, data asset or distribution channel. It also competes in one of the most crowded app categories, where MyFitnessPal just bought Cal AI, a product with over 15M downloads and over $30M a year in revenue.

02/Moats

No moats found. Nothing here would take a good clone longer than 2 weeks.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Meal photo recognition and nutrient estimates come from off-the-shelf vision LLMs plus free databases like USDA FoodData Central.
  • The avatar that reacts to your diet, the streaks and the friends leaderboard are standard gamification any clone ships in days.
  • Barcode, text logging, the vitality score and the 5 health bars are features that MyFitnessPal, Cal AI and Lose It already have or can add easily.
  • Users keep no meaningful history or social graph in the app, so leaving costs nothing.

How you'd go after it

  • Outspend it on TikTok and UGC creator ads, the channel that grew Cal AI. Miobi shows no sign of using it.
  • Go after a niche Miobi doesn't serve deeply: pregnancy micronutrients, vegan B12 and iron gaps, or GLP-1 users who need protein and fiber.
  • Pair it with blood-test or wearable data for micronutrient advice a photo-only app can't give.
  • Copy the avatar mechanic in a habit or virtual-pet app like Finch, where users already come back for the companion.

04/Build against it?

Stay away

Hundreds of AI photo-calorie apps are fighting over paid installs, and the leader now belongs to MyFitnessPal. Only go in with a proven paid-acquisition or creator-content engine, or a defensible niche like clinical or lab-linked micronutrients.
