“A weekly upvote board is a weekend build. The only hard part is a DR 75 domain, and a dozen rival launch boards already have one too.”

01/The verdict

LaunchIgniter is a weekly launch board in the style of Product Hunt, with a backlink attached. Indie makers pay $12 to $15 per launch to skip the queue and get a dofollow link, or $99+ for done-for-you directory submissions.

The thing makers actually buy is a cheap dofollow backlink from a high-authority domain plus a week on the homepage. Building the authority took about a year: LaunchIgniter launched in April 2025, and free launchers had to add a badge linking back. A newcomer can repeat that playbook. The product itself copies in days, the audience is mostly other makers, and the market is packed with near-identical boards like Uneed, Fazier, TinyLaunch, OpenHunts and Peerlist. Revenue is modest, about $15K all-time per the founder, which suggests buyers have plenty of alternatives.

02/2 moats

~12 mo to cross

Directory roundups list the domain at Ahrefs DR 73 to 75, and that link is its main selling point. Much of it came from free launches that require a badge linking back. Traffic is still small, with a global rank of about 1.4M.

To cross it: Launch a board with a free tier that requires a backlink badge, list it on every launch directory, and let the backlinks compound for 9 to 12 months.

~6 mo to cross

The site claims 11,000+ makers and has published weekly winners without a break since 2025. But the voters are mostly other makers promoting their own launches, not buyers. The X account has only about 1,000 to 1,500 followers.

To cross it: Seed a board from indie-hacker communities on X, Reddit and WIP. Makers will happily list on one more free board.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • Weekly leaderboard, upvotes, comments and maker profiles are standard Next.js CRUD
  • $12/$15 paid launch tiers and badge-for-backlink free tier are copied by dozens of boards
  • Done-for-you directory submission service at $99 is a manual task any freelancer offers
  • Free SEO tools pages are commodity lead magnets

How you'd go after it

  • Undercut on price or offer a free dofollow launch with no badge required, the main complaint against boards that demand one
  • Pick a niche board (Mac apps, AI agents, mobile apps, a specific country) with a real buyer audience instead of makers voting for makers
  • Bundle launches with distribution that has actual reach, like a newsletter or a big founder X audience, to beat on traffic rather than DR
  • Sell a single bundle that launches across many boards, turning LaunchIgniter into one line item

04/Build against it?

Stay away

Launch boards are a saturated, low-ticket category where each new entrant waits a year for domain authority just to reach parity. Only worth it if you already own a large founder audience or a buyer-side community that delivers real traffic.
