Does Daybreak Leads have a moat?

No.

“The pipeline is public filings plus a cron job. Nobody has to wait for anything, and rivals like Clay and Apollo already sell the same triggers.”

01/The verdict

Daily B2B sales signals (new funding filings, director changes, contracts won, website problems) built from public filings, sold to sales teams and agencies at $500 a year, with an app, API and MCP server.

The data comes from public sources: Companies House, SEC Form D and 8-K filings, and public contract and grant notices. Each signal links to its filing, so anyone can pull it. I found no founder audience, press, reviews or funding, and the site looks brand new. The $500 a year price is low, and Apify scrapers, Crunchbase, Clay and Apollo already cover the same triggers.

02/1 moat

~2 mo to cross

It offers a REST API, webhooks and an MCP server for Claude and Cursor, with a CSV export. The MCP route is a nice touch, but the endpoints are simple to rebuild.

To cross it: Wrap the same public filings in an API and an MCP server, which a capable founder can do in a few weeks.

03/The gap

Easy to copy

  • The filings feed: Companies House, SEC Form D and 8-K, and public contract data are open to everyone, and each signal cites its source filing.
  • Signal types and filters (funding, director change, contract won, site down) are an ordinary scraping and diff job.
  • The morning email, saved searches and lists are standard CRM-lite features.
  • The MCP and API layer is a thin wrapper that any rival can copy in days.

How you'd go after it

  • Undercut the $500 a year price, or give away the UK signals free and charge for enrichment.
  • Pick one vertical, such as web agencies targeting outdated sites on freshly funded companies, and ship ready-made outreach.
  • Bundle the signals with verified contact emails and sequencing, which Daybreak does not appear to offer.
  • Let buyers build it themselves: Apify actors for UK new companies and directors already exist, and Claude Code can wire up the Companies House API.

04/Build against it?

Only with an edge

Only go in with a niche edge, such as one vertical's signals bundled with contacts and outreach. Generic public-filing alerts are cheap to copy and already sold elsewhere.
